Log harvesting for my next cabin takes me back to what this life is really about — working with the land, using what the forest offers, and building something that lasts. I head into the bush to select and harvest the logs that will form the bones of my next cabin build — choosing each tree carefully, felling by hand, and beginning the slow, satisfying work of turning raw timber into building material. It's quiet, deliberate work, and it never gets old. Beyond the log harvest, this video also covers time in the vegetable garden, where things are coming along nicely and the off-grid homestead is starting to feel more productive with each season. There's some cabin maintenance as well — the kind of ongoing work that keeps a hand-built structure sound through the Canadian winters — and a proper meal cooked the way I like it: rabbit in a rich cream sauce, done slowly in cast iron over the fire. Simple ingredients, good technique, and nothing wasted. This is what self-reliance looks like in practice. Not one dramatic moment, but a collection of small, honest ones — felling timber, tending a garden, patching and maintaining, feeding yourself well from the land.
