What happens between 9 pm and 9 am? The pool grows quiet. The lights feel harsher, and the night settles in. This is the hardest part of the challenge — when the body wants to recover, the eyes burn, and time slows down. There are encouraging cheers after each freediver completes their one-hour shift. It becomes about repetition, commitment, and showing up again and again — just like in life. While one freediver moves beneath the surface, the others wait, rest, and breathe. The volunteers keep showing up too — steady, present, and supportive. They make us feel seen and held through the night.
