Saint Pancras of Taormina (3 April): Butler's Lives of the Saints

St. Pancras (Pancratius) of Taormina, whose feast is celebrated on April 3rd, is one of the earliest apostles of Sicily and a powerful witness to the Gospel. According to the tradition recorded by Fr. Alban Butler, St. Pancras was born in Antioch and converted to the Christian faith along with his parents through the preaching of St. Peter himself. Ordained and sent by St. Peter, St. Pancras became the first bishop of Taormina in Sicily. There, he courageously preached Christ, destroyed idols, and converted many through both eloquence and miracles. Even the local prefect, Boniface, was converted and assisted him in building a church. After baptizing many new believers, St. Pancras sealed his witness with martyrdom. He was attacked and stoned to death by bandits, giving his life for the faith he so boldly proclaimed.
