Description
What if India's oldest martial art and hip-hop's most explosive dance form
shared a common ground. Kalaripayattu meets B-boying , and nothing will
ever look the same.
In Episode 3 of Desibels, we dive into the third pillar of hip hop: Breaking.
A Kalaripayattu master and a B-boy come face to face, and what unfolds is
one of the most jaw-dropping fusions you'll ever see. Footwork, freezes,
low combat stances, explosive jumps : the moves are different, but the
language is identical.
KALARIPAYATTU : THE WARRIOR'S ART
One of the oldest martial arts systems in the world, Kalaripayattu was born
in Kerala, India over 3,000 years ago. Built on rhythm, extreme flexibility,
and fluid combat sequences, it's the root system of movement that
practitioners believe influenced martial arts across Asia. When you place
its movements next to hip hop dance and B-boying, the parallels are
impossible to ignore.
THE FUSION
This episode is where Indian martial arts culture collides with hip-hop
culture : in body, in rhythm, and in the spirit of the warrior and the
dancer as one. This is Breaking, but make it ancient India.
This is Desibels , a first-of-its-kind series exploring the 5 pillars of
hip hop through Indian cultural parallels. Each episode proves that desi
roots and global hip-hop culture have always spoken the same language.
Which move surprised you the most ,Kalaripayattu or B-boying?
