Tensions between Iran and Israel erupted over the weekend. The exchange began after Tehran warned of retaliation for an Israeli assault on the suburbs of Beirut that came without warning earlier in the day and in apparent defiance of a U.S. request for Israel to stand down. The Fire Department of New York (FDNY) responded to the bustling transit hub near West 33rd Street and 7th Avenue in Manhattan after receiving emergency calls around 7 p.m. reporting an individual attacking multiple people. Karmelo Anthony's lawyers rested their case on Monday in his trial for the fatal stabbing of another student at a high school track meet. Anthony, 19, faces a murder charge for the death of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf. Police said Anthony and Metcalf got into an argument over seating in the stadium stands on April 2, 2025, which escalated when Anthony stabbed Metcalf in the chest with a pocketknife. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) on Monday confirmed two additional cases of New World screwworm in Texas, widening a multi-agency response that has already triggered international trade restrictions. The latest cases involve a calf in La Salle County and a dog in Andrews County. According to the USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), preliminary investigations indicate the infested dog had recently been in Mexico, where the parasite is known to be present. With these new detections, federal officials have now confronted four confirmed cases of the flesh-eating pest over the past week.
