Description
Racial discrimination against people from the North East is one of India’s most ignored social realities. From being called “Chinese” or “momo” to being told to “go back,” many Indian citizens are routinely stripped of their identity, dignity, and belonging.
The case of Angel Chakma forces us to confront a painful truth. This is not an isolated incident. Studies show that nearly 78% of people from the North East report experiencing racial discrimination in India. What makes this even more disturbing is that while Indians often speak against racism abroad, we rarely acknowledge how deeply racial prejudice exists within our own society.
This video reflects on why racial discrimination persists, how it affects Indian citizens from the North East, and why a society that normalises such behaviour cannot call itself truly civilised. Ignoring this problem does not make it disappear. It only makes it more violent.
