Taiwan puts 29,000 soldiers on standby as powerful super Typhoon Bavi fast approaches

At least 15 people have died in southern Philippines after Typhoon Bavi swept through the island nation. The storm, spanning 1,000 kilometres at its widest point, is now heading towards Taiwan and Japan. Dozens of flights and schools across the region have been cancelled as locals prepare for Typhoon Bavi. Taiwanese authorities have put 29,000 soldiers on standby as the weather system is expected to bring up to one metre of rainfall.
