Australian Raven " Has The Answer Why? "

half way through the 14 week finds Marcel in a less than happy mood despite being the instigator of our contact on this particular day after thinking that he would not show up on this particular day i was preparing to go back home when i dropped my car keys,as i bent over to pick up the fallen item i felt Marcel land on my back which is something he has not done for some time.when it first happened Marcel caught me by surprise and as i was not expecting anything like that happening i got quite a start which in turn startled him the end result was in took several weeks before Marcel would even try to do that again & when it happens now i do not react with a start as i know exactly who/what it is. after starting the day like that i was quite shocked when,as we were talking to each other as i stroked his feathers he gave my finger a very slight nip which was followed by another slightly harder nip at which point i returned his nip by flicking the end of his beak with my r/hand pointing finger,during the whole time i am talking to him and he utters a variety of sounds until the final nip from Marcel at which point i ask him " why are you doing this mate " at this question he is seen to put his head down and say something that clearly sounds like he is answering my question,his response was " i dont know ". over the past few months i have repeated those words " you dont know " followed by " you must know " many many times along with a lot of other useless commentary. Marcel turned up at the end of the day as well [ probably because he knew that i had minced chicken hearts for him earlier in morning ] after having about 180 grams of chicken livers [ hearts are for tomorrow ] which he ate in a very subdued almost hushed tones by comparison to his usual way of " scoffing " his food down as usual when someting different happens there is not a camera/phone handy.this was also the case when he decided that he would also like to land on the back of the home owner on this day of oddities,unfortunately,although Marcel was very very welcome he was, nonetheless,unexpected as such the poor lady also was startled which in turn had the same effect on the bird who departed just as quickly much to the disappointment of recipient of his attention.no doubt he will try again sometime in the future as he did with me and i have no doubt that when that happens both parties with be ready and his landing on her back will lead ti him standing on her shoulder. Marcel was found on the ground in the last week of july after a very stormy night,after ringing a few places i was instructed to take him to specific vet surgery where i was advised that he was a raven,healthy,unlikely to have fallen to ground & he was a fledgling & " should be returned to where he was found his parents will look after him ". unfortunately this was not the case and it was 4/5 days before the parents came near him,he also had a talon missing from a rear toe that became quite swollen & infected in the weeks that followed needing treatment,it was paw paw ointment that cleared it up after having no success with other conventional treatments.Although the only sure fire way to accurately identify the gender of a raven is by blood/dna test Marcel has been declared a male for a number of reasons with the primary one coming from my 15 yr old daughter who has declared that " that bird has to be a male.because its just so annoying " fortunately she avoids Marcel otherwise he might think his name is/was " stupid bird " admittedly the poor kid was swooped by a maggie as a five year old & it appears that it has left her quite scarred.
