Description
On Thursday the 12th of March, I went for a ride on Te Huia (the Hamilton to Auckland commuter train) for the first time in almost three years, and on this occasion, motive power was provided by DFB 7295. Te Huia is notable for various reasons, one of which being its use of heavily-modified ex-British Rail Mk2 coaches. The coaches were originally imported and refurbished for commuter service in Auckland, but have since been refurbished a second time for use on Te Huia.
Once in Auckland, I tried to find some of the brand-new AM electric multiple units that were built in Mexico, but mostly saw the older Spanish-built AMs. On the whole, it was still a successful day, ending with the return trip to Hamilton behind DFB 7295 and a very well-timed meet of DCs 4260 and 4951 (with the M52 shunt) and a Main Trunk freight train at Frankton station.
This video was inspired by the numerous channels that do videos on railway trip reports.
