They Build a City of Ice—Then Let It Disappear

Every winter, the Chinese race against the clock to harvest ice from frozen rivers. Workers use giant saws to cut out huge blocks of ice. Those blocks are then lifted with excavators and transported using trucks. All that ice is used to build an entire city made completely of ice for the world’s largest ice and snow festival. The event draws millions of visitors and generates billions of dollars. And just a couple of months later, the whole city melts away like it never existed.
