G.Skill reached a $2.4 million class action settlement to resolve allegations of deceptive marketing regarding its DDR4 and DDR5 memory speeds. The lawsuit, originally filed in 2022, claimed the company misled consumers by advertising high performance "out of the box" without clearly stating that achieving these speeds requires manual BIOS adjustments like enabling XMP or EXPO profiles. While G.Skill denies any wrongdoing, they have agreed to update future packaging to use "up to" speed labels and include explicit disclaimers regarding overclocking requirements. United States residents who purchased qualifying G.Skill desktop RAM (DDR4 above 2133 MHz or DDR5 above 4800 MHz) between January 31, 2018, and January 7, 2026, can file a claim by the April 7, 2026 deadline. The net payout fund for consumers is approximately $1.3 million, with claimants allowed to submit up to five units per household without proof of purchase, while the remainder of the settlement covers administrative costs and roughly $800,000 in legal fees.
