Description

Mike Tyson Faced Orlin Norris 0n October 23, 1999 in what turned out to be another controverial ending of a Miike Tyson fight. Tyson was not meant to face off with Norris, a beefed up cruiserweight as there were a number of high calibre Heavyweights Boxers who were highly ranked legitimate opponents. Though, due to more personal problems, Tyson was out of Boxing for a year and a half. So, on returning to the ring, I guess he needed a good warm up, and Norris should have at least provided this. Surprisingly, this started off to be a much more competative fight, with Norris showing very good hand speed and movement. Norris, who stood around the same height as Tyson, was heavily muscled, and seemed to have no issues blocking Tyson's heavier punches, occassionally taking a few heavy hits to the face. Tyson, after the year and a half out of the ring was not qhuite the same fighter, slower without his trademark peek a boo style and fast evasive head movement. As the round moved forward, Tyson got in a couple of good shots that backed Norris up onto the ropes Norris recoved, then countered with his fast jab, whilst keeping a smart distance out of Tysons reach. At this point the fight was competitive, and it looks like Mike was in for a tough night against an opponent who had the stamina and ring smarts to at least take the fight the distance. The two men were centre ring in close trading blows when the bell sounded to end round one. just as the controversial referee, Richard Steele stepped in to break them up, Tyson threw an short right hand the refs arm, catching Norris flush on the face. Norris, collapesed onto his back. Tyson had 2 points deducted, and once Norris recovered, the two fighters went to their respective corners. The crowd went crazy, booing Tyson. Then even more controversy took place. When the bell sounded to commence round 2, Norris sat on his chair whilst Tyson stood centre ring ready to fight. The ref consulted with Norris's corner, who said Norris cannot continue the fight due to a dislocated kneecap. Tyson was Fuming. The fight was ruled a no contest by disqualification, which meant Norris won the fight. Yes, Norris did come down onto his knee after Tyson's late punch knockdown, yet Norris was walking around the ring as if nothing had happened, like he had no injury whatsoever. A dislocated kneecap would definately show, as a person would struggle to walk at all. Things just got worse. Tyson headed towards Norris corner and had to be restrained. The crowd went beserk. A huge number of security and officials entered the ring for Tyson's protection. So, a fight that could have been an interesting contest turned into a complete shambles. After the fight, accusations flew back and forth between both fighters camps, regarding a rematch clause money that was owed, and much more. Both Fighter never really acheived anything after this fight, with Tyson's career slowly falling apart as his boxing skills and will to fight, declined. Norris never made a name for himself in the heavyweight boxing division, only having a few mediocre bouts that did nothing to help him achieve his desire to hold a Heavyweight boxing Championship title Belt. legitamate contenders This is Daniel Nelson For Daniel Nelson's Best Of Boxing Subscribe, Like & Share Hit The Notification Bell Top Right Hand Corner of your screen for more fantastic Boxing Action and Commentary.
