#15.Tesla Hardware 4.5 Mystery: What's New?
Unpacking the unannounced changes to Tesla's computer systems. Discover the potential Hardware 4.5 upgrade, its implications for FSD, and exterior tweaks like black badging. Is it real or a misprint?
[01:05-01:30]
Now they have made some changes that they have completely unannounced and they're not saying anything about it. And that is the computer on the inside of the car, which you cannot see. So under the passenger side footwell, if you pull a panel down, it'll tell you what computer is in there. Now in the infotainment system, it will say hardware 4. When you go to the sticker underneath the footwell, it will say hardware 4.5.
[01:30-01:48]
And basically what my understanding is, is that is a three sock system. So it can handle more compute and has more fault tolerance. It's just evolving so it can handle more full self-driving technology. The question is though, will hardware 4 vehicles be left in the dust as we transition toward hardware 5? I don't know.
[01:49-02:13]
Personally, I think where the full self-driving in this is right now is unbelievable. Now, after doing a little bit more research on this hardware, a four point five situation, I've found that it actually might just be a misprint on the label. Now, with that said, I do find it to be a really weird misprint. I still think there is a chance, but ultimately what you would need to do is take your car apart to see if it was a four point five system, if that even exists.
[02:13-02:31]
So everyone on X seems to think it's just an error, but I just have my doubts because I could see them covering up for what was a leak, which could hurt their sales in the short term as people wait for hardware 5. But I truly don't know. I just wanted to at least mention it because it is a difference. It's just a weird sticker that they showed.
[02:31-02:49]
Whereas in the past, they said Highland didn't exist as an internal term, but then it was printed on a sticker underneath the seat. So I just wanted to leave this in there as this isn't that credible of a change. It might be no change at all. So they're adding more compute. They're adding a three sock system and that's that.
[02:49-03:22]
overall on the exterior of the vehicle, everything's still fairly the same. So you still have the silver lining on the roof. You still have the darker rear windows. The only other thing on the exterior that they've changed is the badging on the back. now comes standard in chrome black so if you see on my vehicle here where it says dual motor so i'm at dynamic tint currently and that's why we're able to film this other vehicle so tyler put this on in the aftermarket now the vehicle comes with this standard so this This has full body PPF and this newer one also did a full body PPF.
[03:22-03:37]
Now it comes with that lettering in black and this is a launch edition so technically the dual motor is generally over here on the regular models and they don't make the launch editions anymore. If you can find a launch edition used it's actually a really good deal because it comes with a perpetual license of full self-driving.
