Description

Crazy Horse was the great Lakota enigma: no photos, no public voice — just trails of war and legend. Born in the Black Hills as the shy “Curly,” he saw disease and massacres destroy any hope for peace. After a vision in the desert, he became Tasunke Witko, the “untouchable” warrior, master of cunning: in 1866, he served as bait and annihilated Fetterman. He refused the “cage” of the reservations in 1868 and chose freedom. In 1870, a forbidden love pushed him away from politics and into total war. With the treaty betrayal and Custer’s invasion, he defeated Crook at Rosebud and sealed Custer’s fall at Little Bighorn. But victory brought vengeance, starvation, and surrender. Betrayed by intrigues and a mistranslation, he died by the bayonet — and entered into myth.
