ASB Good as Gold: John Shepherd

This weeks’ ASB Good as Gold recipient is John Shepherd, founder of the ‘Every Sunday Collective’, a community he started eight years ago to support men’s mental health. What began with just five riders has grown into a welcoming network of more than 250 people who come together each Sunday to connect, talk, and ride. The Collective offers a space outside of everyday life where people can share stories, build friendships, and support one another. Under John’s guidance, the movement has expanded to South Auckland and Taupō, with Tauranga, Melbourne, and Sydney in the pipeline. John also plays a key role in leading ‘Every Sunday’ riders to take part in the annual Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride, helping raise funds and awareness for men’s mental health. His kōrero around positive mental health, inclusivity, and respect is both grounding and inspiring. Even while navigating personal challenges and caring for his family, John continues to lead with humility, compassion, and dedication. ASB is proud to recognise John Shepherd with $10,000 as this week’s ASB Good as Gold recipient.
