Description

Companies have been putting tiny microbeads in our exfoliants for years and research is now showing all the detrimental consequences they are having. There are so many great natural exfoliants that are effective and biodegradable, so it really doesn't make sense... other than for profits. So I was hoping we could take action together and boycott micro-bead products - by choosing awesome companies that don't support them, or by making our own homemade exfoliants/scrubs. Personally I don't feel the need to exfoliate my face with anything special, a regular cleanser gets the dead skin cells off my face, but they are definitely useful for other parts of my body - like the backs of my legs which can otherwise be prone to ingrown hairs, and also my feet can do with a good scrub too. Walnut shells are strong exfoliator, they are a good option for a foot scrub if you think they are too harsh for other parts of your body, in the recipe I share you could replace them with activated charcoal to create a much gentler scrub for your face. Brands that use microbeads at the moment; - Clearasil - Clean & clear - Olay - Aveeno - Nivea - crest toothpaste - although they are apparently on phase-out so keep an eye on that Good brands for exfoliants that don’t use microbeads at all are - the body shop - lush - Sukin - Trilogy Natural exfoliants - ground nut shells - sugar - salt - coffee grounds - almond meal, oatmeal - nut meals/grain meals - vanilla beans - baking soda - spices; cinnamon, turmeric - activated charcoal A great simple recipe for walnut cleanser - alternative to brought cleansers that use microbeads, strong exfoliant - 3 tbsp moisturising cream - 1 tbsp crushed walnut shells - 1 tbsp liquid castile soap - I use; http://www.iherb.com/dr-woods-pure-al... - 1 tbsp clay - this one is; http://www.iherb.com/now-foods-solutions-european-clay-powder-6-oz-170-g/620?rcode=gow915 - 1 inch vanilla beans - 10 drops essential oil I love this soap as a gentle exfoliant http://www.iherb.com/nubian-heritage-...
