PM Narendra Modi has created a historic political record. On 10 June 2026, Narendra Modi became India’s longest continuously serving elected Prime Minister, crossing Jawaharlal Nehru’s elected Prime Minister tenure record. Jawaharlal Nehru served as elected Prime Minister from 13 May 1952 to 27 May 1964, which comes to around 4,398 days. PM Modi has been Prime Minister continuously since 26 May 2014, and on 10 June 2026, he completed around 4,399 days in office. But there is one very important detail. This record is only about continuously serving elected Prime Minister tenure. In total Prime Minister tenure, Jawaharlal Nehru is still ahead because he became Prime Minister on 15 August 1947, before India’s first general elections. PM Modi also holds another major record. He served as Gujarat Chief Minister from 7 October 2001 to 22 May 2014, and then became India’s Prime Minister on 26 May 2014. By combining his Chief Minister and Prime Minister tenures, PM Modi crossed Pawan Kumar Chamling’s 8,930-day record on 22 March 2026 and became India’s longest-serving head of government.
