I had almost given up hope on a truly great live-action Mortal Kombat movie after the 1995 original, but Mortal Kombat II has finally brought the franchise back into serious conversation. As of May 2026, the sequel is already in theaters, and with Shao Kahn, Kitana, Johnny Cage, Quan Chi, Baraka, Sindel, and the Amulet of Shinnok all in play, the movie clearly leaves the door open for a much bigger third chapter.
