Description
I could cry looking at his fur now 🥹
Due to past vets not taking his symptoms seriously we didn’t get an official diagnoses until September!
Penny had Demodex mites, these are mites that naturally occur on mammals already and eat dead skin cells, sebum etc but can become over populated with stress/compromised immune system. Demodex sometimes can take more than one treatment to solve.
It’s important if your hamster is showing signs of hair loss, itching, dry skin, irritated skin you see an exotic vet and make sure they do a skin scraping to rule out mites! My first mistake with the two other vets was not insisting on a skin scraping!
