Description

You must have noticed that after switching off your motorcycle engine, tik tik sound comes from bike silencer. The exhaust manifold, the bend pipe along with the catcon & the silencer get quite hot when you drive for long distances and hence it tends to expand. The exhaust has a number of concentric cylinders / pipes for lapped joint, internal structure and outer heat shields. All of them are bolted over each other making a sandwich of materials with different cooling coefficients. When you leave the bike parked, it cools down and contracts. As different layers cool at different rates, they rub against each other despite the clamping load of the bolts. This causes a clicking sound similar to "tik-tik". #bike #motorcycle #automobile
