Adult buffalo charge together, heads low, horns forward, kicking up dust. The lionesses try to stand their ground at first, roaring and bluff-charging to protect the cubs. But buffalo are bigger, heavier, and fearless in a group. One good hit can kill a lion. As the herd closes in, the lions grab the cubs and retreat fast, tails down, full sprint.
