Unveiled in July 2024 at the Chicago Street Race, the ABB NASCAR EV Prototype is an all-electric, all-wheel-drive crossover designed to showcase sustainable racing technology. Developed by NASCAR engineers in collaboration with Chevrolet, Ford, and Toyota, the concept car moves away from the traditional sedan silhouette in favor of a crossover utility vehicle (CUV) body made from a sustainable flax-based composite. Under the hood, the prototype is a powerhouse. It features three STARD UHP six-phase motors—one in the front and two in the rear—powered by a 78-kWh liquid-cooled battery. This setup produces a massive 1,360 horsepower (1,000 kW), significantly more than a standard Cup Series car. It utilizes a modified Next Gen chassis and retains the same steering, suspension, and brakes used in current competition, though it adds regenerative braking to recapture energy.
