Description
This Turkey & Mushroom “Risotto” is a gentle, dog-friendly take on a comforting classic. Part of our Drooli recipe collection, it’s designed for dog owners who want to prepare fresh, nourishing meals at home using simple, whole ingredients.
In this video, I show you how to create a risotto-style dish without traditional arborio rice. Instead, cooked brown rice is combined with lean turkey, egg, mushrooms, vegetables, and hemp seeds to create a soft, satisfying texture that’s easy to digest. Mushrooms add natural antioxidants and B vitamins, while turkey provides high-quality protein that’s well-suited to adult dogs who need a lighter option. Once the food has cooled, it’s finished with Olli, our whole-food supplement formulated specifically for homemade diets.
This recipe provides approximately 1,000 kcal. If you’d like personalised feeding amounts or want to scale the recipe for batch cooking, the Drooli app calculates everything automatically based on your dog’s size, age, and activity level.
Please note: this recipe is not nutritionally complete on its own. To make it suitable for everyday feeding, we add Olli All-in-One Homemade Diet Supplement. If you’re not using Olli, you would need to provide the missing nutrients yourself. Per 100 g of this recipe, that means adding approximately 1.31 g calcium, 0.05 mg iron, 0.23 mg iodine, 9.69 IU vitamin E, 0.17 mg vitamin B1 (thiamine), and 79.95 mg choline to meet minimum requirements.
Ingredients (to make ~1,000 kcal):
209 g – Turkey (raw, 85% lean)
109 g – Egg (whole, raw)
87 g – Mushrooms (button or portobello)
44 g – Olli All-in-One Homemade Diet Supplement
44 g – Cooked brown rice (no salt)
21 g – Hulled hemp seeds
16 g – Beef liver
14 g – Green peas
14 g – Carrots
Directions:
1. Chop the carrots, mushrooms, turkey, and liver into small pieces.
2. Cook the turkey in a non-stick pan over medium heat. Add a splash of water if it begins to stick.
3. Add the chopped liver and cook for 1–2 minutes until opaque.
4. Add mushrooms, carrots, and peas. Cook until the vegetables soften.
5. Stir in the cooked brown rice and hemp seeds.
6. Crack in the egg and cook gently until set, either by scrambling or mixing into the warm rice so it sets softly.
7. Remove from heat and mix in nutritional yeast.
8. Let cool completely, then add Olli. If you want to avoid colour change, mix Olli with a little cooled boiled water to form a paste and add it on top or on the side.
9. If needed, loosen the texture with a splash of cooled boiled water before serving.
