Description
Note the hand placement and body positioning I put myself in to stay between the big beautiful shark and the guests joining us for a snorkel with the sharks @OneOceanDiving
LARGE Tiger sharks like Queen Nikki are clearly not mindless monsters, but she is an important and capable apex predator🦈
It is so important as a professional not just to be able to redirect a shark, but to do so thoughtfully with forward consideration for a diversity of situations, body positioning and practiced skill to encourage a shark to move around, rather than directly at a person in one's care, and an essential element of that is to always follow through with a redirection.
A brief redirection may mean that the shark simply moves off of oneself and immediately around towards others, so following through can be a very gentle maintaining of constant contact in order to assure that the shark will make it past others before continuing on his or her original directional heading, as you can see this can be done with a very light touch at times.
Maintaining physical contact allows me to maintain a level of awareness of the movement of that shark watching the movements of other sharks (like the one I'm keeping an eye behind the boat) so l can adapt to always be closer to a shark or between a shark and guests.
Ilove being able to share the beauty and incredible depth of information about sharks, and the need for their conservation as well as information that is useful to anyone who enjoys time in the ocean in order to help them stay safer, by helping others to learn to be safer, by adapting to the sharks behavior, is synonymous with being respectful.
