Description

This weekend, I'm throwing and trimming a tall jar with a stepped lid with the initial focus being on sorting out an irritating teething issue I've been encountering... my fault, due to bad throwing. Sometimes, I've incorrectly been leaving strong throwing rings towards the bottoms of my pots, which means when I trim the vessel, a thin spot is created that ultimately buckles when fired, or it even collapse. So, in this video I'm sorting that out, whilst also covering each step along the way, from throwing the components, glazing the object, reduction firing it to cone ten, (1290ºC), and finally how I grind the lid smooth using diamond pads and carborundum paste. I also used bronze fragments to try and create two very simple marks so that you jar and body can be aligned, but let's just say that idea went out the window...
