This one started in a way I've never had a job come in before. I got an email from a guy named Zach, who had given a woman named Debbie an Uber ride and helped carry her groceries all the way around to her back door. That's when he saw the yard. The grass was almost as tall as he was back there, and there was just stuff everywhere. He knew she needed help but he was a few weeks out from knee surgery, so he reached out to me instead. When I got there and met Debbie, she told me she was embarrassed by how things had gotten, but once she started explaining the circumstances, it all made sense. Her husband had been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and given about 90 days to live. She was his full-time caregiver through all of it, and when he passed, her own health started going downhill fast. She'd been scammed out of a $2,000 deposit by a contractor who never showed up. She'd fallen three months behind on rent. There were days where she and her dogs went without food because she just didn't have the money. And on top of all of that, she's been putting off dental work and other health care that she really needs because she simply can't afford it. I called my dad because I knew this was too big to do alone, and we spent two days here. We hauled multiple trailer loads of debris out of the yard before we could even start mowing. I bought everything she had set out for a yard sale and donated it to Habitat for Humanity so she'd have money in her pocket without having to run the sale herself. And through our nonprofit SB Mow It Forward, we were able to take care of her three months of back rent. I don't say that to pat ourselves on the back — I say it because that's what this community makes possible every time you watch and support this channel. But there's still more she needs. So we've started a GoFundMe for Debbie to help cover her dental care, her health expenses, and to help her get into a stable living situation going forward. I'm personally putting in the first thousand dollars, and the link is down in the description and pinned in the first comment. Even five dollars goes a long way when we all come together.
