Description
The escalation of violence and fighting in Al Fasher, North Darfur, has uprooted thousands of families — with children and women bearing the brunt of the suffering.
Nine-year-old Tuqaa and her siblings have seen things no child should ever witness. "All our neighbors were killed, and all the friends we used to play with were killed," she says. "The thing that scares me most is bombs. I don't want to hear the sound of bombs in the street and gunfire anymore."
Despite access and insecurity challenges on the ground, UNICEF is responding fast and scaling its response to address urgent and immediate needs of the displaced.
What displaced children like Tuqaa want more than anything is peace and a chance to return to their homes. "The first thing I will do when I get home is fix broken things," she says. "I want to play, go to school, read and learn. I want to become a doctor, so I can treat people who were injured by bombs."
