A 38-year-old Perth father was fatally attacked by a four-metre great white shark while spearfishing off Rottnest Island on Saturday morning. Marine life ranger David Shanky-Baxter, who responded to the Manly shark attack earlier this year, proposes an autonomous AI-powered drone system costing approximately $20,000 that could patrol beaches and alert swimmers to shark presence without requiring human operators.
