Description
Would you rough in your tub spout with a soldered copper stub-out… or install a drop-ear elbow and thread the spout on later?
For this bathroom, I went with a drop-ear elbow. It gives you a solid mounting point inside the wall and makes it easy to thread the tub spout on once all the tile and finish work is complete.
There are plenty of plumbers who still prefer a soldered copper stub-out, while others swear by a drop-ear fitting. Both methods have their place, and a lot of it comes down to personal preference, the type of spout you’re installing, and following the manufacturer’s specifications.
That’s what makes plumbing interesting - ask ten tradespeople and you might get ten different answers.
So let’s hear it…
Which method would you choose for a tub spout rough-in, and why?
