Did This Seal Just Hold His Rescuer’s Arm?

A tender moment unfolded during this rescue, as OCN rescuer Naude and his son worked together to free a young seal from a piece of gill net. At one point, it looked as though the seal gently held onto Naude’s arm - a gesture we can’t help but interpret as a small sign of trust or comfort. Maybe we’re projecting. But after seeing so many animals scared, hurt, or in distress, it’s moments like these that keep us going. Even if it’s just a coincidence, a little “hand holding” during a rescue feels like a shared moment of peace.
