Wild Blueberry & Maple Centre Grand Opening October 10th, 1998 (Oxford, Nova Scotia)

This vintage clip captures the official opening of the Wild Blueberry and Maple Center in Oxford Nova Scotia, set inside a former Bank of Nova Scotia branch that was donated to the town after the bank moved up the street. Local leaders, volunteers, and multiple levels of government pulled together funding through federal and provincial programs, economic development groups, and community support, and you can really tell this project meant alot to the people involvd. Speakers include the mayor, Bank of Nova Scotia vice president David Martin, MLA Murray Scott, MP Bill Casey, county officials, and development officers, all talking about tourism, wild blueberries, maple syrup, and how volunteers are the real backbone of the region. The building keeps parts of the old bank like the vault, which is pretty neat and gives the place character. It took years of planning and hard work and you can see they were proud of what they built here, and honestly it’s a great little snapshot of community driven Maritime history.
