Soulful CORN VILLAGE of India, Sainji, Uttarakhand l Canadian Bakery + Farm Fresh Pahadi Food

We visited Sainji, popularly known as Corn Village, a quiet hamlet near Mussoorie that feels unlike any place we have been to. The first thing that caught our eye was the sight of golden corn cobs hanging everywhere, from verandahs and windows to wooden beams. Walking through those lanes felt like stepping into a living postcard. And as we soon learned, this practice isn’t just for beauty; it’s part of the village’s rhythm, tradition, and way of life. We spent the day with Kuwar ji, who welcomed us with warmth and so many stories. As he guided us through the old wooden homes, he spoke about how the village has evolved over time, the changes he’s seen, and his own journey woven through it all. Listening to him made us feel deeply connected to the people and the place. He also took us to the school run by his Canadian wife, a bright, happy space filled with children learning and growing together. Seeing the bond they have built with the community was truly heartwarming. Our visit ended at their cosy cafe, where we sat down to enjoy local dishes and freshly baked treats made by his wife. Between the flavours, the conversations, and the slow mountain pace, it felt like one of those days you want to hold onto.
