AVForums Editor Phil Hinton gives you a full in-depth review of the Hisense U8Q Mini LED TV.
Hisense's ongoing advancements in its high-end Mini LED TV range demonstrate consistent year-on-year enhancements across design, materials, features, and image quality. This progression, however, has led to an increase in pricing, positioning these products in a more premium segment, even as their performance and overall offering are still striving to fully reach that premium standard.
The Hisense U8Q is the best mini LED TV we have seen from the company so far and is better than last year's offering, which is what you would expect to find. It's not perfect, with the usual downsides of the Mini LED LCD technology impacting some aspects of the performance, such as DSE (Dirty Screen Effect) and some local dimming issues in dark room viewing. HDR also looks good for the majority of content I viewed, with decent tone mapping and brightness available. Hisense supports all HDR flavours with HDR10+, HDR10, HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) and Dolby Vision and Dolby Vision IQ. We did find some clipping issues with HDR10 content over 1000 nits, and the blooming suppression impacts the overall contrast, but with everything else, the U8Q displays some excellent HDR images that look natural.
Gaming capabilities are enhanced by three HDMI 2.1 (48Gbps) ports. These support 4K/165Hz for PC gaming and 4K/120Hz gaming in Dolby Vision (via Xbox Series X), thanks to the Pentonic SOC. The TV also features a dedicated games menu bar and impressive input lag performance.
The Hisense U8Q is a recommended television for the mass market, particularly for those seeking a bright room TV with very good overall performance, but wait until it is available via sale offers as the MSRP is expensive.
