Youth Spotlight @ The Monthly Focus Sankofa Inner City Cultural League

As part of The Monthly Focus, the crew always highlights a promising local youth. This month was all about the Sankofa Inner City Cultural League! The Monthly Focus Youth Spotlight shines a light on a young person or youth organization doing something great in our community. The spotlight features groups and young individuals who are making a positive impact, building valuable skills, helping others, staying healthy, connecting with great role models, and having fun. The focus of ICCL is creating and promoting an awareness of the arts, highlighting the cultural and historical imagery of African American contributions to Delaware and our nation, while providing excellent artistic programming. ​ By doing so, we will enhance the quality of life for all area youth and their families, encourage youth to accept health, social, academic and civic responsibilities and serve as a cultural catalyst for the community. We offer after school and summer camp programs that focus on prevention, health & wellness, STREAM activities, and an African dance & drum program. Our annual events include celebrations for MLK Jr Day, Black History Month, and Kwanzaa. We also annually host an African American Festival, Sankofa Safe & Smart Day, All Star Athletic Week, and many other events and outreach activities/resources. Every month features someone who’s not only doing cool stuff now but is also setting themselves—or others—up for a brighter future. We want to hear about their passions, their hard work, and the difference they’re making. This segment is all about inspiring other young people to get involved, find their own path, and dream big.
