Description
Turning 65 soon? Whether Medicare enrollment is automatic depends on ONE critical factor!
✅ AUTOMATIC ENROLLMENT (No Action Needed):
If you're receiving Social Security or disability benefits at least 4 months before turning 65, you're automatically enrolled in Medicare Part A and B.
Your card arrives a few months before your 65th birthday, and coverage starts the first day of the month you turn 65.
❌ MUST ACTIVELY ENROLL:
If you're NOT receiving Social Security by 65, NOTHING is automatic!
You must sign up during your 7-month Initial Enrollment Period (3 months before your birthday month, your birthday month, and 3 months after).
Miss this window = permanent late penalties!
🚨 DISABILITY NOTE: If you're under 65 on Social Security Disability, you're automatically enrolled after 24 months.
Don't risk penalties! Know your enrollment status.
