Description
Since March 2, 2026, hostilities across Lebanon have displaced at least 1.1 million people, including 390,000 children.
For many families, this is not the first time they've been forced out of their homes. Each successive escalation of cross-border conflict between Israel and Hezbollah causes a new wave of displacement.
Mahdi, 12, and Mohamad, 9, were overjoyed to see each other again when they were reunited at a shelter for the displaced in Beirut in April 2026, just 15 months after they met under similar circumstances. The two started playing together immediately.
"You are my friend and I love you," Mahdi tells Mohamad in this touching video. "I hope the war ends and we return to the village, and that we remain the closest of friends. I hope you continue your studies, grow up and become everything you dream of."
UNICEF and partners are delivering essential supplies and assistance to children and families staying in displacement sites in Lebanon. More help is urgently needed.
