Description

Researchers with the UC Davis Labor and Community Center highlighted the impact of eligibility cuts to the state's CalFresh food assistance program, which went into effect Wednesday as part of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, or Federal HR 1, last year. Those findings are detailed in a research brief titled “CalFresh Enrollments in the Greater Sacramento Region, 2019-2024,” by Marcos Lopez, Director of Research, and Jason Whisler, Senior Research Specialist. "With Federal H.R. 1, CalFresh faces the most severe cuts in both eligibility and funding in the program’s history. Sacramento County will see a particularly high amount of residents losing eligibility as all lawfully present non-citizen immigrants such as asylees and refugees will no longer qualify for benefits," read a key finding in the new report.
