Description
Jan Jekielek, author of the New York Times bestseller Killed to Order and senior editor at The Epoch Times, testified before Congress Thursday on China's alleged forced organ harvesting industry.
He joined the National Desk's Dee Dee Gatton to react to the ongoing summit and weigh in on what, if anything, should be said behind closed doors.
On the Iran-China-U.S. dynamic
Jekielek said China has little incentive to help broker a deal that would cut off a key source of cheap oil.
China kind of needs that oil from Iran that it has been getting at fire sale prices — breaking the sanctions, blockades, and so forth," he said, echoing remarks made by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. "So I don't think that China actually needs to be convinced at all about participating in this way.
At the same time, Jekielek argued, Beijing has a conflicting interest in seeing the Middle East conflict drag on.
They want to keep that conflict going as long as possible, to keep America's gaze away from focusing on China — to keep it distracted in the Middle East," he said.
Gatton noted that President Trump said on Fox News earlier in the evening that China wants to buy U.S. oil — a development that, if true, could further strain Iran's economy.
