Japanese Snow Monkeys Climbing Japanese Cedar Trees Caught on Trailcam in Snowy Late Winter

A troop of Japanese monkeys (aka snow monkey; Macaca fuscata fuscata, family Cercopithecidae) passed by a snow-covered communal latine of Japanese raccoon dogs (Nyctereutes viverrinus, family Canidae) in the windbreaker forest of Japanese red-cedar (Cryptomeria japonica, family Cupressaceae). As you can see, an adult female was collared with a GPS device. Some juvenile monkeys climbed up the tree trunk of Japanese cedar. Judging from the moving shadows on the snow, the snow monkeys seemed to be feeding on ripe fruits (pepos) of Chinese cucumber (Trichosanthes kirilowii var. japonica, family Cucurbitaceae) hanging from dead vines in defoliated trees.
