Description
An adult Japanese monkey (aka snow monkey; Macaca fuscata fuscata, family Cercopithecidae) was found feeding on young leaves of a giant tree of Japanese Elm (Ulmus davidiana var. japonica, family Ulmaceae) on the mountainside.
After a while, another one came down the slope to join the feast. It began to climb up the thick woody vines of Japanese wisteria (Wisteria floribunda, family Fabaceae) which had grown winding around the Japanese Elm tree. The confident climbing techniques and agile leaps between a vine and a side branch were replayed at 5x slow-motion (1:22-).
Captured in the cloudy early-afternoon (around 12:45 PM) of late-April 2025 in Japan.
