Of course they do, but in this context Rennick was referring to CO2 molecules (he wrongly called them 'atoms') colliding with other molecules of N2 and O2, and passing on energy according to Newton's 3rd law. In this case it is not the weight that passes on energy, it is mass. That's what the 'm' stands for in Newton's Third Law. The reason physicists use mass and not weight is that weight varies. In interstellar space weight is effectively zero, and even on Earth weight varies depending on your location. If Rennick had submitted a test paper to my old physics teacher, he would have been marked down for referring to 'weight' and not 'mass' in Newton's Laws of Motion.
