Kate Kallot is working to ensure that the Global South isn’t just benefitting from artificial intelligence, but also shaping its future. She’s the founder of Nairobi-based AI company Amini, which is building the data and infrastructure needed to do that. On Dec. 5, Kallot received a TIME100 Impact Award in Abu Dhabi, in recognition of her efforts to build an AI ecosystem that serves the Global South. Others who joined Kallot in being honored for their work included McLaren CEO Zak Brown, investor and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, and Authentic Brands Group founder Jamie Salter. “I am tremendously honored and humbled to receive recognition alongside the phenomenal leaders we’re celebrating tonight,” Kallot told the crowd.
