The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Rules, 2026 will come into force on 1 May 2026. This marks a decisive step in shaping India’s digital gaming landscape. The Rules establish a structured system to govern online games. The focus is on user safety and industry growth. Their commencement signals a shift from broad policy intent to enforceable regulation. The Rules flow from the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming (PROG) Act, 2025, enacted by Parliament in August 2025. The Act addresses the rising harm of online money gaming.
