They are generally large areas designated by a country's government for nature conservation and public recreation. Because of their prestige, they become popular tourist attractions for both national and international visitors. They are places to escape the bustle of the city or the stressors of everyday life. Whether it's a day trip or a longer getaway, national parks will not disappoint. However, most people don’t think about the potential risks found within these beautiful sites. Much of the time, a visitor might meet with a simple slip and fall. Other times, the wildlife can be less than welcoming, especially towards those who disregard their boundaries. Several national parks are rather isolated from larger population centers, but rangers do their best to patrol the parks and offer their support to those who need it. Sadly, this doesn't always help. With many of these parks encompassing millions of acres, finding someone lost or injured can be compared to finding a needle in a haystack. Large swaths of forest impede visibility from the air and on the ground. Then there are the places where the weather poses the biggest risk. From harsh colds to scorching heat, people run the risk of running afoul of mother nature. Of course, this is just the worst-case scenario. Of the millions of people who visit national parks each year, only a small percentage (and we mean small) encounter these situations. Of these, even fewer go missing and are never found. There are still a number of visitors, however, who entered a national park and seemingly vanished, never seen by their friends or family again. Today, we are going to discuss some of these strange and unsolved cases.
