Celebrating Atlatadde Alone This Year | Missing My MIL ❤️

Atlatadde (also spelled Atla Tadde or Atla Thadde) is a traditional Telugu festival celebrated mainly by married and unmarried women in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. 🌙 Here’s a quick summary: 🌸 Meaning & Purpose It’s a festival similar to Karva Chauth in North India. Women observe a day-long fast for the well-being and long life of their husbands (if married) or to find a good life partner (if unmarried). It’s also a time for women and girls to come together, sing songs, apply mehndi, and enjoy festive food. 🕯️ When It’s Celebrated It falls on the Atla Tadde, which is the third night after the full moon (Pournami) in the Ashwayuja month of the Telugu lunar calendar (usually in September or October). 🍛 Traditions & Rituals Women wake up early, take a pre-dawn meal, and then fast for the whole day. In the evening, they perform puja to Goddess Gauri, make Atlu (small dosas), and break the fast after seeing the moon. The festival includes singing Atla Tadde songs, decorating hands with mehndi, and sharing Atlu among friends and family. It’s a beautiful celebration of devotion, love, and womanhood — filled with tradition and togetherness. 💛 This year’s Atlatadde felt so different… celebrating far from home and without my mother-in-law beside me.
