Description

In this video, I take a look underneath a 2025 GM truck with only about 7,000 miles on it, and I was honestly surprised by how much surface rust is already visible on parts of the frame. Now, to be fair, we live in Canada where road salt is used heavily in the winter, and that’s hard on any vehicle. But it does raise a question I’ve heard discussed quite a bit: why do GM truck frames sometimes appear to rust sooner than others? One theory you’ll hear is that GM uses more of a wax or coating on their frames rather than a traditional painted finish, whereas some other manufacturers use painted or differently treated frames. Is that the real reason? Or is it mostly climate, road conditions, and how trucks are used? In this video, I show what I found, talk through the possible reasons, and share my honest thoughts as someone who spends a lot of time around trucks and under them. I’m curious to hear from you as well — have you noticed this on your truck, and what brand do you run?
