Description
Recently adopted. 5 years old. And when he feels unsure? He chooses fight.
This German Shepherd came to us in Detroit with a strong “fight” response triggered by anything new or uncomfortable… new environments, handling, pressure, unfamiliar situations. When a dog doesn’t feel safe or clear, the nervous system takes over. For some dogs that looks like fear and avoidance. For others, it looks like aggression.
Dogs like this aren’t “bad.” They’re overwhelmed. When a dog has learned that the world is unpredictable, going on the offensive can feel like the safest option. Our job at Off Leash K9 Training is to create clarity, structure, accountability, and controlled exposure so the dog no longer feels like they have to handle everything themselves.
Confidence is built through consistent expectations, fair communication, and calm leadership. When leadership becomes predictable, the world becomes less threatening and that’s when real transformation begins.
If you’re struggling with a reactive or aggressive dog in the Detroit area, you’re not alone and it’s not too late.
