Description
After five unforgettable days with grizzlies in the Khutzeymateen, we began our journey south through coastal British Columbia. Before heading to Campbell River, we decided on one last tour with Coastal Rainforest Safaris out of Port Hardy. Within minutes of leaving the dock, two pods appeared—both transient and resident orcas—and the crew dropped a hydrophone into the water.
The sound that followed was pure magic. Clicks, squeaks, and whistles filled the air, revealing the complex language of these incredible animals. Orcas are actually part of the dolphin family, and hearing them communicate underwater was one of the most moving wildlife moments of our trip.
We also spotted sea otters, humpback whales, harbour seals, and sea lions, wrapping up our Inside Passage journey in unforgettable fashion.
