Description
After Abhimanyu is left alone and killed on the thirteenth day of the Kurukshetra war, Arjun learns that the one responsible for stopping the Pandavas was Jayadrath, and in grief-fueled rage he vows to kill him before sunset the next day or give up his own life.
Jayadrath, the king of Sindhu and Dushala’s husband, is driven by humiliation from his past crime against Draupadi, which pushes him into severe penance and earns him a boon from Shiva to stop all the Pandavas except Arjun for one single day.
That boon allows Jayadrath to block Bhima, Yudhishthir, Nakul, and Sahadev, leaving Abhimanyu trapped alone inside the Chakravyuh, leading to his brutal and adharmic death.
On the fourteenth day, the Kauravas form an impenetrable defense around Jayadrath, but Arjun, guided by Krishna, tears through multiple battle formations as the sun races toward sunset.
At the final moment, Krishna creates darkness to draw Jayadrath out of hiding, allowing Arjun to strike him down before sunset, fulfilling his vow.
Jayadrath’s death is completed through destiny itself when his severed head falls into his father Vriddhakshatra’s hands and then to the ground, activating an old curse, proving that boons grant power, but arrogance ensures destruction, and that Abhimanyu’s sacrifice was ultimately answered by justice.
