Description
This weekend's video goes over what has become an annual tradition almost, the throwing, trimming and handling of a batch of individual, one-off mugs. I like to make these in larger batches with the idea simply being that no two shapes can look the same, they must be similar, of course, as they need to reside within my 'family' of work stylistically. I can then use these together with teapots or other arrangements of pots over the coming year.
I'm also covering the trimming of these cups using a solid clay chuck and then there's the more complicated handling process. For the most part, these are shapes where an upward springing form suites the forms better, in my opinion, and lately I've been employing a technique where the pulled and secured handle is sort of 'hoisted' upward, right at the apex of the handle's curve, to create a sharper, more defined shape, which I think matches the angularity of my ceramics better, there's a more appropriate synergy.
Then, at the end of the video, I'll be showing you all of the new mugs in sequence and I'd love to hear your thoughts on which one you like best. Please be picky and comment the number of your preferred vessel, which you'll find to the left of each spinning cup.
Thanks so much for watching!
